WHAT CAN YOU DO TO MAKE A START IN YOUR CHURCH?

Institute Key Components of Violence Prevention Programmes using The Public Health Approach

  1. Define the problem. Understand the numbers and demography (e.g. affected groups: age cohort, gender), especially in relation to communities served by the church.
  2. Identify the risks and protective factors.
  3. Test interventions
  4. Projects properly designed, implemented and evaluated.
  5. Apply the interventions widely.

THE CHURCHES VIOLENCE PREVENTION NETWORK

Goal

The goal of the Network is that by mutual support member churches will promote more effective peacemaking and violence reduction in their related communities

History

The Churches’ Violence Prevention Network was organised in December 2005 out of a need for the Church to be more engaged within communities towards violence prevention through joint action. It is supported by the WPRC and the Ministry of Health

Any church can become a member of the Network by contacting Whole Person Resource Centre (WPRC) through their Secretariat at 8 Durham Avenue, Kingston 6, telephone 702-2898 or by email at wprc@cwjamaica.com. Mrs. Metz is the contact person.
