Jamaica Injury Surveillance System, Research Department, Ministry of Health Report for Period January – December 2005 During the period January – December 2005, 37,307 visits for injuries were recorded in the Accident & Emergency (A&E) department of 9 government hospitals namely Cornwall Regional, Kingston Public, Sav-La-Mar, May-Pen, Mandeville, Bustamante Children’s, St. Ann’s Bay, Annotto Bay and Spanish Town Hospitals. The JISS captures more detailed information on injuries from the A&E departments of 9 of the 11 computerized government hospitals across the island. These injuries are broken down by codes (indicating whether injuries were accidental, violence-related, suicide or motor-vehicle related) surname, date of birth, age, address, statin code, registration date and disposition. Of the JISS total 16088 (43%) were unintentional injuries, 14464 (39%) violence related injuries, 6755 (18%) motor vehicle accidents. Click to enlarge
